Hi all, 

I'm working on a project that sees me automating a large number of components added to a design. I'm struggling with automation in Capture though. Can anyone help me with some examples of how to do the following:

-Create a new schematic page

-Add components to that page at some x,y coordinates

-Add nets to the components

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I grep'd the various .tcl sample files, as well as the TCL/TK extensions pdf, and I didn't find anything relevant.

Hi everyone,

New OrCAD user here. I am encountering a problem I can't find the answer to for the life of me.

I am creating a new design using components I have available to me from an old design. The schematic sheets are within the same project and the symbols for the new design were simply copy/pasted from the old schematic's sheet.

I changed the reference values for each part in the new schematic, saved and exported the netlist, which I imported into a PCB Editor project. I then went to place the components for the board associated with the new design, but they didn't show up in the list.

In my investigations, I've found that the part manager's part list lacks all of the components in the new sheet, too.

Is there a critical step I missed when copying the parts to the new sheet that I need to correct in order for them to properly show up when I import the netlist in PCB editor?

I can't seem to locate the "Shape Void Rectangle" in Allegro 17.4. Has it been removed? l also can't figure out how to make the custom smooth option a shortcut button.

Does anyone know how to do a rigid-flex board in OrCad Standard?

The product table clearly has wording that indicates some sort of Rigid-Flex support exists. (overlays, etc) and the "Professional" version adds "automatic" to rigid flex. But I seem blocked at every turn.

Trying to create a 6 layer rigid with 4 of the layers extending out to flex. I understand I can't do zones / multi-stack up.. without pro.

1. I can create Gerber files with Rigid/Flex outline. I can add stiffeners, etc.. this is all good.

2. I can't place a component on a lower Layer than top and bottom.. even manually it seems.

3. I can't seem to get the "embedded" feature working to place components on a lower level.. even though I can set it up in the stackup..

4. I have no idea how to create a solder or silk overlay for all of it..

One answer may be that its simply not possible at all.. which would then sound like deceptive advertising for "Standard". Also there seem to be a lot of items that are active such as embedded stackups and layers called rigid-flex.

So how does one hack this? How did one do it before v17.2? I don't mind some manual work.. but want to avoid splicing gerber files..

Hi,

 I'm having a problem with Part Developer 17.2 on Windows 10

I open Part Developer with the Allecgro PCB Librarian XL license. I choose Tools->Setup and if I change the grid spacing, it crashes when I press OK. Screen goes pale, (Not Responding) in the title bar etc. 

If I skip this and open a cell. When I open the Symbol Editor, it crashes. But worse. Screen goes black, I have to power cycle the PC.

The only clue I have is that while following the tutorial yesterday, there was no symbol preview shown in Part Developer. The tutorial said this would happen if the PCB Librarian XL license was not loaded, but it is. 

Any clues what might be wrong? I have an urgent deadline coming up and I've wasted a full day on this now. It is driving me mad!

Hello,

I have version Capture and Allegro 17.2-2016.

In Capture CIS, I have a column property called "Manufacturer's part number" that I like to import into Allegro such that I export it in a reports for pick and place. (Export->Reports make a new custom report with selected fields) In Allegro, it uses PART_NUMBER so I assume I must have a column like that in Capture. How do I rename or easily copy in Capture my "Manufacturer's part number" column into a PART_NUMBER column?

I assume I have to import the changes through Import->netlist. Would that be correct?

Hello Everyone,

I am using 17.4 Hotfix 11. Everything seems to work except a few dialog windows won't open such as Setup -> Design Parameters..., Export -> Libraries, and Export -> Down Rev Design... When I click these buttons nothing happens with the exception of "Down Rev Design..." where it acts like a dialog box has opened but is invisible. The PCB Designer window title greys out and the computer dings any time I click. I Have to close through the task manager. I can open other dialogs just fine such as Setup -> Grids... and Setup -> User Preferences... Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a work around?

When I sync sch --> pcb i have the Constraint Difference Report displayed and it says that Design has those attributes changed:

Got them on every sync. What they actually mean ?

I am still learning here so, please be patience with me. 

I had no DRC errors until I placed the EMI shield. I believe the issue is related to the height of the shield.

I did not create this component so, how do I change the component height?

Would I also need to set a min and max component height?

Sorry about an elementary question, I am still in process of transition from PADS where such questions never arise.

I have a problem with adding polarized caps.  For example, I need to use a 0805 Tantalum 10uF. If I follow tutorials and and just drop in a 'C' from "discrete.lib" and then try to assign an existing footprint from "C:\Cadence\SPB_17.4\share\pcb\pcb_lib\symbols" all I can find to fit is a non-polarized "smc0805.dra". Trying to avoid  designing a new footprint I downloaded a cap from Ultralibrarian, but their footprint "F98-S_AVX"does not show any polarity either.

I am not really a PCB designer, but an embedded engineer and design not very professional prototype boards once per 6 months to be cleaned later. To fix the issue on my prototypes I simply add '+" to the silkscreen where it has to be in the actual footprint.

So my question is, what is the proper way to add '+' to 0805 or 0603 packages of polarized capacitors? Thanks!

After generating my gerbers, the board house is telling me solder masks are missing on several components.

Here are the screenshots for top and bottom layers where mask openings are missing from all major components holes, PTH holes, SMT pads.

How do I correct?

I am using OrCad trial version 17.4.  I have been able to work with OrCad capture without much troubles but whenever I open the pcb editor, the pcb editor window shows up as in the picture below but freezes and doesn't respond

Hi All,

I'd like to launch sub program (padstack) or other program (Sigrity) by command or button without tedious working like finding path or searching Tool name from OrCAD or Allegro PCB Designer tool.

for instance, if I put the command 'padstack' then the 'Padstack' will be opened like below. Sigrity as well

or what if I have to write SKILL code for this, then How to launch the .exe file by SKILL code?

Hello,

When I use the model pspice for the IR2110 for a full bridge I got overflow error. Does someone have a solution to this problem ?

I tried a lot of tweak with the solver, try to use initial condition on various capacitor... But no found solution !

I'm trying to "reverse engineer" an IC manufacturer's evaluation board. The manufacturer only provides an OrCAD PCB file in .brd format, a PDF schematic and nothing else. There is no .dsn or .opj files. I need to create the schematic and OrCAD project to match the .brd file.

Is it possible to extract the component footprints and pads (.psm .dra .pads) and .step 3D model just from the .brd file?

Hi all,

I downloaded the board outline data as an psm extension file,

but I want to use with mechanical symbol so I want to convert to bsm extension file.

so I tried to change the extension intentionally to bsm, but it couldn't import at the board

how can I convert to bsm or how can I modify the file?

Is there a way to change net name in OrCAD PCB Designer 17+ without unrouting and rerouting the traces?

In Edit -> Net Properties, by right clicking the nets from the list, there is a Rename option but it's always inactive.

In earlier versions there was a command: editChangeNet, but it's no longer available.
