Hi,
I want to know whether the PCB designed in Orcad PCB gives the NC Drill File with optimized
arrangement of co ordinates?
thanks
Hi everybody,
I have the following questions regarding orcad.
We draw the circuit diagrams and make the connections in the schematic. We create a netlist. And then we import it to the layout.
1. After importing netlist to the layout the designer should not be able to make any modifications (adding connection or component, deleting connection or component) in the layout. If yes then how?
2. But in some cases the designer may want to modify the connections and the components. In such case is it possible for the designer to modify the connections and components in the schematic and update it in the existing layout? if yes then how?
If answer for the question1 is No then,
3. Is it possible for the designer to make the modifications in the layout itslef and apply these updates to the existing schematic? if yes then how?
Hi friends,
I have been using the part developer tool (v16.6) for creating the symbols but i am not able the see the symbols i have created. I understand that the symbols can be viewed in canvas. Could you please let me know how do i open/see/use this symbol editor canvas.
Thanksin advance.
Warm regards,

Hello
Is there any way to insert a clearance constraint to avoid high voltage clearance violation between different layers.
As i see it must take into acount the layer stackup dielectric thicknesses and make angular geometric clearance calculation between different objects in different layers ?
Maybe any body uses a custom SKILL for that ?
Thank you
Hello,
Locate a component on PCB (with zoom on it) by its refernce on is very useful function, especially on complex PCBs with thousands nets/components. But it seems that this feature is missed in OrCAD Allegro (or it's hiden by some sophisticated interface).
When I specify the component reference in the Find by Name entry (please, see the picture in attachment), nothing happens !
Moreover, when I move cursor out, the entered text disappears !!!
Is it bug, or I missed something ?
Thanks in advance.
Pavel.
In the symbol editor, how do I change the pin number of a specific pad stack. For example, I have a connector footprint (converted from an old 16.2 library) that has a row of pins 1 thru 10. There are two additional pins numbered 16 and 17, but I want them to be 11 and 12. I can not find a way to edit the pin number.
Further, suppose I wanted to make those two pins "mechanical" instead of electrical. How can this be done without deleting and adding the pin again?
Suppose I have to delete and re-add these two pins as mechanicals. How can I specify the coordinates where I want them located? I have tried typing the coordinates onto the command line using the "x ## ##" method, but it does not work.

Hi All,
I'm using SPB16.5, making a schematic with OrCad Capture CIS.
I made a bus named DATA[0:7] and then wired it with DATA0, DATA1....... etc. Now I need another bus named HSI[0:15]. However, instead of naming the signals HSI0, HSI1..........I want to name them WAKE, SEND, FLAG, and other names not related to HSI. Is this possible? I looked in the help files, but the only format I found was the DATA0, DATA1 format. Is there a work around so I can have different names in my bus? Thanks!

I am a new user of Allegro PCB editor of OrCAD 16.2. I want to modify an existed PCB design (*.brd) without schematic.
My question is how can I utilize netlist & device files to place a self-created PCB package symbol.
I think I need to add my package symbol to Allegro's library. To make Allegro recognize it's name. Then when I modify
netlist file with the name, Allegro will link to the *.dra file which I created.
If my thinking is correct, how can I let Allegro to recognize a new symble.
thanks
Hi all,
I am really stuck in the following problem, please help me...
When we import a circuit drawn in the ORCAD Schematic into the ORCAD Layout with necessary Netlist, does the connection integrity (even in cases where the interconnecting lines as seen in the layout as soon as they are imported) is maintained?
Do we need to enable anything in the checklist to ensure connection integrity as they are in the schematic?
When I pick a part in editor, it does not highlight in Capture. I have intertool comm enabled, I have opened and closed editor and capture and regenerated the netlist.
I'm expecting that when I move R1 in Editor, R1 will highlight in Capture.......... right?
I have witnessed placing parts from Capture also. If I do a series of key clicks between Editor and Capture on an open area in editor and a part in Capture (I have yet to figure out the exact series because it keeps changing) then I can highlight a part from capture, but still need to click on it to place it in editor.
Here is what I'm looking for, when I select a part to place or move in Editor, I would like the corresponding part to be selected in Capture.
I would also like to be able to click on a part in Capture and the corresponding part be attached to my cursor in Editor.
What am I doing wrong...........
Thanks,
Tom
Does anyone have any suggestions on creating footprint with thermal pad that requires topside via tenting on the top side?
I tried making shape symbols for solder mask/ paste mask, but due to the void in the shape it requires I am not able to create it.
I can place the shapes manually in package geo/ SM or PM, but I think lot of the data does not have it to display in the default setting for our filmsetting.
Please let me know if there is a way to make the shape symbols or not.
Thanks in advance.
I am seeing some strange issues in 16.5 with symbol & pads paths. When I create a new board I have to go in to the user preferences\Paths \Library each time to edit where I want Allegro to pull pads and symbols from. The issue is that the env file seems to get over written between designs with the cadence defaults for library locations. If I edit the locations they get written to the env file and everything works good. If I make the env file "Read Only" my paths to symbols and pads do not get blown out between designs.
I am using a folder called c:\Allegro_Libs and under that folder there are sub folders for both symbols and padstacks. I also notice that I have to put the actual sub folder path in the "PSMPath" otherwise Allegro wont see the libs. It appears that the program does not traverse sub folders relative to the root folder path, is this correct ?
I prefer to use a folder that is not in the cadence sub folder path for my libs etc as it is easier to maintain.
Thanks Scott

hi everyone,
I am new to orcad. I am designing a PCB using orcad. I put all the components in the schematic and make the connections and I create a netlist and hence the footprint.
The questions are,
1) If I change any connection or component in the footprint then it should show the error indicating that it is not in schematic.
2) Some times i may forget some connections in the schematic. In such case if I add any new connection in the footprint then it should be applied to the schematic.
What do I set to have my own parameter file loaded every time? I made a parameter file with the settings the way I want them, but I have to load it everytime I start the program. This becomes especially annoying when I'm making a series of new footprints and I have to load it each time I start up a new file.
Thanks,
Tom
I want to convert the standard SM.LLB from 16.2 into 16.5 format.
I have created a catalog, set the plane layer to a routing layer and saved it as a .max file.
I then start a new board in PCB Editor, go to CAD Translators and import the .MAX file I just created with the footprint symbols in it.
I then export to libraries, specify the directory I want the files to go, and it says it completes. When I go to that directory there is nothing ther but a few .log files. No footprints.
I have done this process before with other .LLB libraries and did not have any problems. For some reason I can't get it to translate the SM.LLB library for nothing.
Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong? I have used this tech article as a guide: http://support.parallel-systems.co.uk/index.php/cadence/orcad/pcb-editor/item/108-ps-000044-tn-1
it does create the .txt files but no .dra or .psm files though.

I find the one big footprint library very cumbersome. Has anyone broken theirs down into sub categories, ie; resistors, capacitors, ic's, etc..... If so are there any special constraints for the directory structure?
Do the padstacks need to be resident in the footprint library directory, or can I have a padstacks directory seperate from the footprints?
I would think I'd have to do something with the paths in order to make Editor locate the new sub directories, right?
Thanks,
Tom
Hello,
I need the spice model of BLF1822-10 if exist?
