Hello,

We used this command in training class so I know it works...........
I'm trying to use it on a new design. I have four "rooms" and the associated components "quick placed" into those rooms. In one of the rooms, I have placed the parts in the order I want them.
According to the instructions I have, in placement edit mode, select the placed components, hover over one of the selected parts and RMB. The pop up menu should have the "place replicate create" option, but mine does not. I get a menu with "align components", "unplace component", "show rats", etc....... No replicate option.
What am I doing wrong? Like I said, I used this command in training and I'm following the instructions we were given.

Is there anyway to have the arrow keys control the cursor? Example, I am placing a part and want to have a bit better control over the placement then using my mouse. Getting the part close with the mouse then using the arrow keys to dial it in.
16.2 would allow this.

In Capture 16.5 does anyone happen to know what the "Dump Wires" command is for. I came across it by acciednt so it got me curious as to what it does. It is accessed by doing a ctrl+alt+F12 on the keyboard.
Thanks Scott
I have added a flash symbol for the thermal relief while creating the pad but it is not getting displayed in the PCB Editor.
Any help is great.
Thank You.
when i invoke the stroke editor, there is always a message poped up. it's displayed " unable to read file*** this may not be a stroke file".
meanwhile I have my allegro_strokes file under the directory of text.
pls help me !!
Hello everyone,
I apologize in advance for what must certainly be a basic question, but how in the world do you turn on the "bubble" to push and shove traces? I was battling a via that I couldn't delete (finally fixed that), but somewhere in the process I turned off push and shove and I'd like to get it back. I can see that bubble is off because 1) I'm stepping all over my other traces when I try to shove a trace and 2) while I'm in the process of moving the trace I can see that it's off in the options window...but I lose the ability to change the setting in the options window as soon as I stop moving the trace. I don't know how to navigate through the menus to actually turn it back on.
Any help is greatly appreciated with a simple but frustrating problem.
I am trying to add off-page connector and intersheet reference on concept HDL Scematics. Can anyone help me to do it

As I'm approaching finishing my first pcb design using 16.5, I have a few questions concerning netlist generation and loading into the board file.
Throughout the board design process, there are occasions where I will need to change the schematic necessitating a new load of the netlist. Coming from the 16.2 and older generation, all I would need to do was "autoECO" the new netlist into the pcb file and keep on trucking.
The process in 16.5 I have to follow is this: (Starting with both Capture and PCB Editor open)
Close PCB Editor
Select the Netlist command in Capture
Pick my board file
Input my output file
Select "Open board in PCB Editor"
Select OK
This will generate the netlist and open the board in Editor. This seems to be more "manual" then in previous (16.2 and prior) versions. I was not expecting to have to close PCB Editor and manually input the new board file name.
So this begs the question, am I doing this the hard way? Can you have the netlister run while the board file is open AND increment the file name? Older versions would automatically append a -1, 2, etc.... to the board file name.

Hello,
I am trying to mirror the dimension text which I could in 16.3.
Now in 16.5 I could not find this feature anymore. Has anybody an idea how I could do that now?
Many thanks,
Mario
Hi All,
I'm using SPB16.5, making a schematic with OrCad Capture CIS.
I made a bus named DATA[0:7] and then wired it with DATA0, DATA1....... etc. Now I need another bus named HSI[0:15]. However, instead of naming the signals HSI0, HSI1..........I want to name them WAKE, SEND, FLAG, and other names not related to HSI. Is this possible? I looked in the help files, but the only format I found was the DATA0, DATA1 format. Is there a work around so I can have different names in my bus? Thanks!

Scenerio:
Part placed on board, decide to move it to a different location that I know the coordinates of. How??
Same thing when placing a part for the first time, how can I place by coordinates? We did this in training class, but I can not get it to work for the life of me.
Is there a spreadsheet or table where I can look up the part and enter the coordinates?
I have my first board done using 16.5 and I'm just going back over the areas I had issues with or need a better understanding of to make my time spent on the next board more efficient.

I am creating a new testpoint symbol. Simply a pad with a silk screen circle around it. When I draw the circle (Add/Circle on pkg geo/silk top) I can not resize it once I end the circle command. I have tried edit/change, edit/vertex; edit/delete vertex, etc...... The only way I can find to change it is to delete it and draw it again. I have found the same thing to be very cumbersome when trying to edit the silk or assy outline in pkg/geo. Sometimes edit/vertex works, sometimes it doesn't.
I am using general edit mode and have selected the correct filters.

I made a mechanical symbol to represent a daughter board that will mount to my board. Simple rectangle with four mounting holes.
How do I get this symbol onto the circuit board? I have been through all of the menus in Editor and can't find anything that will allow me to bring a mechanical symbol into the board.

Hello. I would like to add an image to my post. When I choose "Insert/Edit" image I need a URL for the image. I was hoping to select the image locally and upload it.
I made this connector footprint which requires solder pads around the perimeter to hold the connector to the board. They are on shapes on the etch layer with solid fill, but they always show as outlines with dots inside. Even when doing the artwork preview.
Will they come out as solid copper pads in the gerbers?
Tom
Good morning all,
I tried to translate an old board, but some footprints get the "_" removed from the name. I believe this is because the names are more than 31 characters. I know how to change this in a design, but do not know how to/or if it can be changed in the translater. Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks,
Ken
We recently did our first design using Allegro version 16.5 and I am having problems highlighting parts when using the viewer of the same version.
In the past I could zoom in anywhere on the PCB, click the "I" icon then use find to locate the part by refdes and the highlighted part would jump to the middle of the display.
With the new version this does not happen. What is does now is zoom out so you can't find the part. I can open 16.3 PCBs in the 16.5 viewer and it works like I just described above where the part jumps to the center screen with no change in zoom. Has anybody else seen this behaviour?
I'm just the guy trying to debug PCBs in the engineering lab and this is one of the most important features I use and now it's broke....
I showed our PCB designer and she did not know how to make it work either.
I find the one big footprint library very cumbersome. Has anyone broken theirs down into sub categories, ie; resistors, capacitors, ic's, etc..... If so are there any special constraints for the directory structure?
Do the padstacks need to be resident in the footprint library directory, or can I have a padstacks directory seperate from the footprints?
I would think I'd have to do something with the paths in order to make Editor locate the new sub directories, right?
Thanks,
Tom
