Netlist report with hierarchical names as listed in Global Navigation Window
I am using Allegro Design Entry HDL 16.6 and in order to validate schematics of electronic designs, I would like to have a Netlist report listing nets as they are listed in the Global Navigation window.
The following picture shows an unintentional swap that took place between blocks at the top level of a hierarchical design, where MPOD_TX_N<11..0> was connected to MPOD_TX_P<11..0>.
As these connections happen between blocks and not between components pins, it does not show up at any of the reports I have tried in Allegro Design Entry HDL and Allegro PCB Designer.
For instance, as pins of an FMC connector are connected to the minipod, and the FMC pins are named in function of columns and rows, the netlist reports including only pin names do not help a lot to indetifyswaps with differential pairs.
As can be seen, it could be easily detected by a script which receives as input all the connections to a given net and applying some filtering rules such as _P and _N, or SDA and SCL, and others.

Change Orcad schematic part type
I'd like to do something really simple and basic. Take resistor R123 and change it from 0603 22k to 0603 10k. That shouldn't be hard..
What's the correct way of doing that if you don't have CIS and already have an existing synchronized PCB? Place a new component and manually change the refdes?

Unselectable shape
I just started using Allegro 16.6. I designed a small PCB and have an error. I am abloe to see a shape and its boundary, but I am unable to select it and delete it. I go into the display turn everything off except for bottom layer boundary and there it is, actually 2 of them. but when I try and select them I cannot. the problem is these shapes also have a no etch error associated with them so I cannot proceed to generate gerbers until these errors are resolved.
this not being able to select objects is not my first encounter. also when I was trying to make PCB parts, I would be unable to select objects on the silkscreen layer. it became 1 and done for me and still is.
How can I select to delete these shapes. they are just simple rectangles on the bottom layer.

Pspice maximum step size question
Hi there,
I am doing traisent analysis in ORCAD Pspice 16.3. Two questions:
1. In "Simulation Setting" dialog box, the "Maximum step size" is usually defualt to be blank ,then what is the default step value set by cadence?
2. In some other prject, I've seen step size set as {SCHEDULE(0,1000ns,2.5m,25ns,6m,15ns)}, what soes this "schedule" function means?

Pspice Model Editor question
Hi there,
I attempt tp see the model text of electrolyte capacitor (C_elec symbol) in cadence pspice library at C:\Cadence\SPB_16.6\tools\PSpice\Library\analog.lib, but the Pspice Model Editor give a pop box as follow.
other lib could be normally opened. Is there something wrong with this lib? How could I solve this? Software is v16.3.

Thermal Reliefs
I need to vary the thermal relief use through out my board but I can only find an option for a global variable. for example sometimes I want 32mil thermal reliefs and sometimes 10. some of those thermal relief also have to pass high current which is why I need to bigger thermals. and the smaller ones because pad size I am connecting to. also sometimes I do not want any thermal relief. I cannot find the option in the option tab that would allow me to change these parameters when I am making a rectangle.

shapes become broke
I am trying to place a rectangle pad and associating it with a certain net. every time i place it though after i select done, the shape becomes broken and registers as an out of date shape. so i have to go into display, turn everything off, expose it with boundary, select the shape using shape->select shape and delete it. otherwise i cannot delete it. why does it do this? why is it not just place a copper pad?
not only that, but if i try and place the pad ont he top layer it doesnt care and it places the broken box on the bottom layer

Allegro Modules
I am using a module in my 16.5 Allegro design which was created from another .brd file. The module name in Allegro is derived from Orcad CIS and contains the .dsn name along with the specified module name inside of Orcad. For example, the .dsn file name is 987654-001-1.dsn and the schematic module name is "memory". When I import this module into Allegro, the name is "987654-001-1_memory". For the next revision of the design (.brd and .dsn), we want to change the .dsn file name to 987654-001-2.dsn and therfore, the module name becomes 987654-001-2_memory. The problem is Allegro only knows the original module name and not the new one. My question is how do I update a module in Allegro with a new name without deleting it and re-placing?

Shape within an other shape with the same net but not connected to each other
Hello,
In my design I use 12 layers. On the 12th layer I place a supply. On the 11th layer I connect some GND pins of some components to each other with a dynamic shape and connect that shape with bb via's to other layers. Around that GND shape on layer 11 is another dynamic GND shape, but they shouldn't be connected to each other on layer 11. They connect on other layer to each other ofcourse.
Is there an easy way to accomplish this without placing a void in the big shape?
I've tried things with Same Net Spacing in the Contraint Manager, but it didn't solve my problem.

Placing 860 LEDs on pcb
Doing a job where customer requires 860 LEDs placed to form a seven segment digit. Trying to avoid manually placing each LED so......
I was given a DXF file with each LED located based on the center of the part. What would be the easiest way to get the parts placed?
Should I extract (manually) the x,y coordinates from the DXF and generate a placement file?
What is the syntax needed for the placement file?

Latest Gerber Standard Support
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the latest version of Cadence supports the new gerber standard from Ucamco (formerly Barco ETS) called Gerber X2?
In 1998 Ucamco published the Extended Gerber Format Specification, also known as RS-274X. In 2014, they extended this format with attributes to provide the Gerber X2 format.
For more information on Gerber X2 visit the download page of www.ucamco.com.
Numberone Systems has already incorporated this standard into their software and I hope that Cadence has been keeping up with the latest gerber standards!

How to communicate impedance control information to the PCB house from Allegro
All,
Our new designs have a lot of differential pairs running around our boards and I want to communicate this clearly to the board house so they can adjust tracks to their process to maintain impedance control. We use the ODB++ functionality to communicate the physical board. I have looked though every file inside the ODB++ file and i see nothing that can be interpreted as netname + impedance value + on this layer information. I have looked through the entire interface of Allegro and see nothing that can do this.
So, my question is, how can i extract this information from our finished Allegro design and commuincate it in an effective and useful manner?

Problem running autorouter from within Allegro
I cannot invoke the autorouter using Allegro PCB Designer Performance16.6 license.
Do I have to use the ORCAD PCB Designer Professional license to do this?

Problem importing DXF traces
Hello,
I'm working on a High speed RF design and I need to import some tuned traces that I made using AutoCAD, I tried to import the DXF file that only includes the traces and it seems that it is deleting everything else on my design and only shows the imported traces, the rest of the data is deleted, is there a way that I can import the traces into the existing design?

Update PCB Without Capture Schematic?
I am in the process of learning ORCAD and need advice on how to best update a PCB. I am using ORCAD 16.5.
I am working on an old project and don't currently have all the files I need (I am hoping this will be corrected in the future). I have a previously designed PCB (.brd file) but no corresponding Capture schematic. The update I want to make is fairly simple (changing a resistor to a potentiometer). Is there a simple way to do this in PCB Editor? Or is creating a new schematic the best approach?

changing a pour
I have a pour that was creasted by adding a shape in a route keepin. I've contracted the keepin in shape, but the pour doesn't adjust to stay inside it.
I have a few to do, so this would be nicer than redoing them.

[SOLVED] Netlist output configuration concatenating property fields to parts causing library name mismatch...
Hello,
I tried searching on the web for this but it seems a little difficult to find a resolved one. I'm using Orcad Capture and PCB Editor 17.2-2016 64-bit. I’m generating a netlist for a board and trying to import it into the PCB Editor for layout. Whenever I export the netlist, I think it is changing the names of my parts where the .dra and .psm library files aren’t the same names as my library symbol names (I made sure my paths are correct for the padpath and psmpath under User Preferences). For instance I have a 1k Ohm resistor that is a 0603 package. The .dra and .psm files are named 0603 because all I really care about is the PCB Footprint field and not the device type or value associated with the part. However, when I go to place the resistor in the PCB Editor it says it can’t find the symbol for RESISTOR_0603_1K because it is looking for that name in the .dra and .psm library files instead of 0603. If I change the .dra and .psm library files to RESISTOR_0603_1K instead of 0603 it works successfully but I would rather just have the PCB Footprint used for the library name.

Allegro PCB Designer - Viewing symbol property values
While editing a symbol in PCB Designer, is there a simple method to view all properties that currently have values assigned?
The only method I can find is to hunt-n-peck by doing Display -> Property, then scroll through the huge list of standard available properties, selecting each property one at a time. Even this does not show me the value of each property; the value field is always blank even when a value has been assigned. I must then click the "Show Val" button which will pop up another window to display the value, if one exists.
It would at least be helpful if the "Filter" button had an option to show only those properties that have a value assigned.
