Hello,
I notice that in the Layout Cross Section of 17.2 doesn't have Impedance option anymore.
16.6 has it.
Has this feature been removed in 17.2 or hidden somewhere ?
Thanks,

I am picking this file up from someone else and the file they sent me has a setting i cannot locate. When i attempt to click on a trace to drag it, i cannot drag it, instead i gives me this error
W- (SPMHGE-480): No valid items selected for 'Flow Vertex Move'. Select a flow segment or via prior to invoking this command.
So i have to delete the line and rerun it. but i always get trace stepping because i cant figure out how to force allegro to either continue straight or bend a 90 at this point. it just does what it wants.
Anyone know they setting that prevents me from being able to drag a trace?
Double-click on .brd opens most recent .brd insted of opening the clicked .brd
Please help.

Hello,
I trying to convert my AD sch files to capture CIS, there are several sch files in my AD project, but when I convert them, only one file would be
converted successfull. How can I convert the other files?
The original files:
In Capture CIS, use Altium schematic translator to do it:
After that, only the PA5_Connectors sch file has been converted.
Hi,
What is the nominal spacing between SMD components to Bed of nail test point

Running Windows 10 with 16.6 and latest hotfix. Windows 10 did an update the other day and now my Allegro screen whites out if I hover over the visibility tab or if I click on any other application that is open. This is happening on multiple computers at multiple locations. Any one else experiencing this? Anyone know of a fix?
Greetings,
After the parts are placed in PCB environment, I made change in schematic. How to up date PCB accordingly without re-generating netlist and re-placing all the parts again.
Thanks

Hi there,
We are design SCH and PCB involving Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA. As usual, we did pin swap during layout, and then we need to verify the swapped pin assignment in Xilinx Vivado .
We do this manually in the past, Could Cadence directly export the ".xdc" or "tcl" file which can be imported by Vivado? And how? I am using V16.6 with hotfix 20. Thanks!
I googled and found this link, but its saying "You can now generate .xdc files and Vivado TCL scripts for all the Virtex 7 devices."
Greetings,
How to "print to file" the schematic as pdf? Or some way to save schematic as pdf format?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Cheng
Does anyone know when CIP went from being ema owned to Cadence owned? Originally one license would support multiple simultaneous users. At least that's what I understood. That is no longer the case.
Hi all, I have to copy basically the same circuitry 3 times onto one board. It's roughly the same layout and I really don't want to do it 3 times a piece. I know that place replicate can take care of this, however, my company did not opt to get allegro professional and only got the standard which does not have place replicate (rage).
I tried using copy and paste, but that did not auto-assign refdes to the copied components. I know I can go through and reassign them individually myself, but I feel like I would make a mistake and that process is not MUCH easier than just redoing the layout.
So, is there a way to do this without place replicate that can make my life a little easier?
I just started to learn the Orcad PCB system for a month now and found that viewing PCB footprints en mass is not easy. In fact there are no way to view them other then putting a bunch of footprints on a pcb design and zoom on the interested footprint. I've done substantial search on the web as well as in Cadence website about how to view footprints. Found some answers but not too functional. The best one can do is use the Allegro Free Physical Viewers to view footprints one at the time. Kind of tedious when searching through a thousand footprints.
Hence, here is a wish I am sending to whoever as the capability to make such program, I cant do that because I am not a programmer but I assume it could be done relatively easily.
The Wish: Have an application that could be embedded in Windows where one can peruse through the Windows Explorer and view Footprints just as one can view bitmap files or jpeg files with the Windows Explorer Preview capability. Presently, a user can Left Click on a jpeg picture file and immediately preview this image on the Preview panel in Windows Explorer. Or, one can choose the Small, Medium or Big Icon representation and see all photos displayed in one folder. Why not having a Windows Application that could do the same with *dra files or *.llb files or *,olb files. Such an application would be the best and quick viewer of footprints and parts available out there.
Anyone up to the Challenge... ?
Dear Cadence PCB Design Community,
I am trying to make a symbol out of the visible features on a complete board design (a plug-on daughter-board) so I can use it as a symbol in another board design. I have been successful before but not now. In earlier versions, I would edit the board, make the features I want visible and then export a subdrawing. In 16.6, I am unable to find the menu selection that invokes this process. As a workaround I did the following:
1. Edit the board as before, showing the features I want, such as connectors, mounting holes and certain component features.
2. Export as a DXF.
3. Import the DXF in a new symbol drawing and save as a mechanical symbol.
4. Export as a subdrawing in the symbol edit mode of Allegro.
I am confused. The 16.6 menus in board mode seem to be different from the menus in symbol mode. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Allan
I have a unique problem that I'm hoping someone else has encountered and solved. I want to make a simple change to a completed Allegro board file from a defunct division of our company, but have none of their libraries or pad files. I do have an HDL schematic, but am unsure if it matches the board file 100%. (Also, we use Capture CIS, not HDL, so I'm unfamiliar with process differences.) The change involves replacing an existing multi-pin component in the layout with a multi-pin component from my own library. What is the best way to accomplish this? Can I export a netlist from the Allegro board file, make manual changes to the netlist, import the new netlist into the Allegro board file, and then make the necessary layout changes based on the new component? If so, how do I do this? Note: I can use either 16.6 or 17.2. The design was done in 16.3.
I am having trouble to import my custom dxf file as the foot print for orcad pcb editor
I need different settings for my diffpairs on different layers. I have seen it done many years ago but can't remember how it was setup.
What I need is for my diffpairs to change width/spacing when I jump to a different layer while routing.
I have layer sets turned on in the Analysis>Electrical modes but do not see where to enter the values for individual layers.
Thanks
Phil
I have a design that has a large number of 0 Ohm resistors, and some of them have a property of DNP with a value of DNP on them. I need to update all these parts with a new library part. I also need it to add the new properties that are in the new library part, as well as replace the ones that already exist, while preserving the REFDES, which is exactly what replace cache does with the appropriate boxes checked. But...I'd like it to also preserve the DNP property if it existed on the old symbol. Any way to do this? The other option is to do the replace cache, and have to go in and re-add the DNP property to all the replaced components.
Thanks,
Austin
Hi,
I'm new to Cadence Allegro and not really sure how to navigate myself around it. I'm currently using Allegro Design HDL and I want to make a schematic of my circuit but I cannot find a library with different kind of resistors like 0603 and 0805 (only can find a generic symbol of a resistor with no footprint). How can I create this, without making it from scratch? I have .dra and .psm files from other sources, but I don't know how to compile a library.
I'm trying to setup the constraints for a set of electrical nets so they are the same length (think DDR type signal constraints), but when I go to analyze, it shows the unrouted net length having a value and the actual total etch length as blank. I have the nets routed but for some reason no matter what I do the measurements stay blank and I am unable to use the DRC and delay tune to work. I am using 17.2 and there appears to not be the option in the constraints analysis tab for "total etch length", at least there is no box to check to turn it on or off. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi
We use Allegro 16.6 and would like to add software or have the ability to evaluate our power planes for things like restrictions prior to release. Does anyone know of a tool or way to do this?
Thanks
Peter
