Layer Bound keeps turning back on

I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem: I de-select the Bound box for a particular etch layer (because I don't like seeing outlines everywhere), but at some point later it gets re-enabled and I have to de-select it again.  This is annoying.  Is there any way to keep the Bound layers always de-selected?

Sigrity Power DC - DCR value for inductors

Hi Folks,

I'm new to sigrity power dc tool. Inductor has DCR 42 mOhm and current flowing through the PDN is 2.2 Amps. So the voltage drop across the inductor is 92.4mV. It is very high IR drop in my entire core power plane. IR drop is getting fail in 20mv margin. I don't have other option to improve the power plane. Just want to know this IR drop will be ignored by removing DCR value or else I should concentrate on power plane improvement.

If some one share complete tutorial for voltage drop analysis setup (VRM, Sinks, Discrete, V/I probe) would be great helpful for me.

Kind Regards,

Raja

How to setup and simulate differential TDR

Hi,

I want to do differential TDR simulation in cadence virtuoso. I have a differential channel, made of Tlines and interconnects (passive componenets). How to setup the TDR simulation to get impedance over time? I know, I have to terminate both n and p channel with 50 ohm each at the output. I have to do also in the input. But how to connect the step voltage source or pulse generator at the input and get the recuiredimpedance over time from the channel reflection? Can anyone help me.

Note: I am using virtusos version IC6.1.7-64b.500.4, there is no rfli. SO I cannot use Balun ports.

Going back to old schematic symbol editor interface (pre 17.2 S042)

Is there a setting to allow you to use the old symbol editor interface (pre 17.2-2016 S042)?  The new interface is very clunky and hard to navigate.

Issue: Updating footprints and padstacks in Allegro 17.2

Hello,

I am encountering issues when updating a footprint and its padstacks in Allegro PCB Designer version 17.2 for Windows 8.  This is for a footprint with a fairly specialized application.  I am creating the land pattern for a 32 pin QFN device where, instead of assembling the part on an exterior layer, we will be milling away a cavity post PCB lamination where the footprint will become exposed on an internal layer.  Since SMD pins in the Pad Editor are only offered for the Begin and End layers, I need to create this padstack using a thru pin pad.  My thought is to pick an unused drill size that I can remove from the drill file later, define the internal pad shape and the top pad that will be milled away--much like a blind via. The bottom layer will be undefined since I will have routing on this layer.

I am able to successfully define and update such a pad for the center thermal/ground pad of the QFN; however, the peripheral lead pads of the QFN will not update to include the internal layer pads that need to be populated to connect the device.  I am using the following command sequence to update symbols: Place->Update Symbols->Package Symbols->[Device of Interest]->Refresh.  I have also tried checking the "Update symbol padstacks from library" option with no success.  Additionally, I have double checked my pad path to ensure that duplicate pads have not been defined in the various libraries I have included.  Nothing is working. Attached are images of the Pad Editor for the pads I'm using.  Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers,

Vipul

Hello everyone,
Fellow Altium user here...

I have received a .brd file, and I need to view this file in Altium so as to integrate it into another project. I have tried the import wizard in altium, along a multitude of other ways I have found online, and none of this is working. I am looking for a way to export the .brd file from my OrCAD PCB Designer software so I can view it in Altium.

All help is appreciated.
Thank you!

Unable to import psm path

Problem Statement:

I am not able to re-import all of my libraries I used in the 16.6 in the 17.2. I pointed to the original files and they didn't import then I pulled all the pad, psm, and dra files to a common directory. I added those locations to the paths, but the export and pcb library can't find these. I can pull other manually created symbols and components by placing them in the schematic and being pulled to the same board, but I couldn't pull the old 16.6 symbols.

I want to know how to incorporate the 16.6 into my 17.2 library and designs or libraries into my new design.

Here is the error:

Hi,

I can't find my "Find Window" when searching something.

I have the "Find" icon (like telescope) in toolbar, and I can do "search" function.

But, OrCAD didn't pop up Find Window to list the results anymore. (Please refer to Find Window.png)

I'm looking forward to your comment. Thanks a lot.

(OrCAD version is 16.6)

Variants: why all attributes of a component are visible?

Hello to everyone, I am new with Cadence and I am having some troubles with Variants...

I made a Variant for a resistor with a different value and the schematic and the BOM are ok, but I don't understand why, in the schematic, all attributes of the component involved in the Variant are shown visible

(normally, when I see the "Base" schematic, only the ref-des is visible).

Is it normal? How can I avoid this problem? I would like to see only the ref-des and not all the other attributes...

Thank you for your help!

PCB Editor: how to do LVS to ensure routed board is electrically equivalent to updated schematic?

$

Hi! I am modifying a routed schematic/board pair that I inherited, and I would like to make sure that the modified versions are electrically equivalent before sending the board for production. This is my situation:

Step 0: I had an original schematic "version1.opj" and its routed board "version1.brd". These versions are in synch and 100% routed without any errors.
Step 1: In Capture I modified the original schematic and saved as "version2.opj". I extracted the netlist files from this updated design (pstchip.dat, pstxnet.dat, pstxprt.dat).
Step 2: In PCB Editor I opened "version1.brd" and saved it as "version2.brd".
Step 4: In PCB Editor I opened "version2.brd" and updated the netlist to point to the modified board files (using File->Import->Logic/Netlist).
Step 5: In PCB Editor I modified "version2.brd" manually to match the updated schematic.

Now I would like to make a sanity layout-versus-schematic of the modified schematic and board, before submitting for production. I found in the web a hint to how to do it (see text below), but I was unable to follow it because the explanation is not clear. Can someone please show the detailed procedure on how to accomplish this?

Thanks and regards,
Jorge.

Procedure found on the web (www.edaboard.com/showthread.php
"Open your schematic in Allegro Design Entry , Create a netlist with PCB Editor and Layout ....you ll get .dat files and .mnl file. Now in PCB Editor Import the .dat files by redirecting to the folder where those are saved. Now without doing anything just save it as.brd file and then open your .brd file again in PCB Editor . This Creates your .xml file....Sorry its a long procedure , but i found it after many trial and error methods. Do the same for the layout file which u already have.
Now using design compare , load both your .xml files in it and you ll get a neat comparison of netlists."

PCB Editor: how to change mapping of mouse wheel?

Hi! I want to change the mapping of the mouse wheel. Actually, I would just to invert it's current behavior (e.g. to match Cadence IC tools like Virtuoso):

-Wheel-down should be zoom OUT
-Wheel-down should be zoom IN

...where and how can I change these bindings? In virtuoso these are defined through "bindkeys". How is this handled in PCB Editor?

Thanks and regards,
Jorge.

PCB Editor: "Check" menu missing

Hi! I an online tutorial for Orcad PCB Designer Professional I see there is a menu "Check", which is missing in my installation (I'm using Allegro PCB Designer 17.2.2016). Is there a way of bringing this menu in?

In particular, I am interested in the "Design status" option within this menu. If I type "status" in my command window I do get the intended dialog window to appear, so it seems the functionality is present in my installation, and is just the menu what is missing. Is there a way to overcome this?

Thanks, Jorge.

PCB Editor: how to transfer layer color setup between boards?

Hello! After I have setup the layers and colors to my liking in a board, how can I transfer these layers/colors to other boards? The designs use the exact same physical stack properties; it's just the coloring setup what I want to transfer between designs. In particular, I want to transfer the "Class/Subclass (user selected)" layers appearing in my "Visibility" tab, as shown in the example below. How can I achieve this?

Thanks, Jorge.

Rotation of routed boards

I am looking for a consistent way to rotate my partially routed board (see below).  I would like to rotate the entire layout (board, components, traces, vias...etc) as a single entity, so I can route each arm with "normal angles".  I say consistent...because it was working...but now has gone back to screwing up the existing traces.  Is there a filter/option that I am missing?  My previous method was to be in shapeedit, create a group and use edit>rotate.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Using 17.2-2016

PCB Editor: possible to adjust embedded net names "density"?

$

Hello! I'd like to increase the "density" of the net names in PCB Editor, as sometimes (specially in close zoomed-in views) large shape areas don't display a label, and one needs to "zoom-out" to catch one of the net names displayed. Is this tweakable somehow?

Thanks and regards, Jorge.
