Screw footprint and its keep out region

I'm tasked with creating footprints for generic screws. There is 1 requirement I do not quite understand. I was told that there is some kind tool/machine that would "assemble" the screw onto the PCB (for high volume production). The head of that tool needs a large area to move around after placing said screw. Therefore I need to take that into consideration.

3 questions:

1- does anyone know what the name of that process is? (I tried searching for anything related to it on the web but came up empty)

2- what is the dimension for such keep out region?

3- should I put it under placement boundary or package keep out? If I put it on both, I'll get a DRC.

Hi Guys,

lets said i got a board with 1-2-1 structure.
Scenario 1: when i punch the via directly from top to bottom, the distance between microvia to microvia is 0mil according to what i set(beautiful)
Scenario 2: when i stop at L2 and restart routing again i cannot get 0mil distance directly(i need manually route and place the core via).
Question is, any way to improve the second scenario?except delete the L1L2 microvia and re-route again.=(

Hi,

in terms of a redesign we changed a couple of components. Now I need to extract a list of all new components which I first marked and then added to a group "newParts" in the part manager. Next step is that I want to hand them over to purchase in a list.

How I can achieve this ? Preferable a excel list.

Rename part property names in Orcad Capture

I use OrCad CIS for my schematics, but now have a schematic where the property names (not value) does not match the standard names. 

I could create a new DB connectors, but would prefer to rename the properties to my "standard".

To make matters worse, the property I use as key in the CIS lookup is one of the properties I would like to change.

There are 400+ parts in the schematic, so I would prefer a programmatic way.

Example: 

Part Number -> PARTNUMBER

Manufacturer -> MFG

I am Fritz Antonio and i am starting to use OrCad 16.6. I would like to instal a new component and i have donwloaded its Psice Model from the site of Texas Instriument. How can i instal, i need this component for progect, design and simulation ?

utility to view the cross-probe messages between orcad capture and allegro pcb editor.

there is no need to import logic from orcad in order to be able to cross probe with allegro.

Variant presentation in capture

Hi,

is there any chance to change the presentation of variant inside orcad capture ? At the moment is only  greyed out and "do not stuff" text. I would prefer a red cross for example.

How do I find a null detector or any component to be placed in Capture?

Hi, I am considered to be rather new to PSpice even though I have used it several times before in the past. I always struggle using the software as I never figure out where I can find the component I needed to simulate the circuit. Now, I am back for another round and attempt to ask the community for guidance.

I want to simulate a circuit that makes use of a null detector, which is used for an ideal voltmeter; however, I don't know where I can find the part or if it even exists.

I was supplied with a SPICE netlist along with that circuit, but I don't think I can use that in PSpice.

Also, if I want to simulate another circuit using a commercial IC or analog part, where do I find the part to use in PSpice?

All components have been placed, but many are still on Placement List

I have Orcad PCB Designer Standard 17.2 with the latest hotfix.  I have placed all the components and routed the board.  Design Status tells me I still have 42.6% Unplaced symbols.  The Placement List shows many of the symbols.  Those symbol show no coordinates if I run a Component report.  But all those components have already been placed; I can see them on the board.  If I try to place one of the duplicate components on the Placement List, the pads disappear from the already placed component, but the rest of the component is still there.  If I try to move the added duplicate, the traces that were connected to the disappearing pads move.

The attached picture shows an example:  You can see that C6 and C7 are placed, but they are also in the Placement List and the Component report shows no coordinates.  The .brd file is also attached.

Please help!

Ratsnest when moving parts - disappears

Something so simple is driving me crazy. When I pick a part to place it the ratsnest for all of the pins disappears. 

I open another board in the same package 17.2, where the rats remain when placing.

LM5022 convergence issue

Hello community,

I designed a DC/DC Boost converter with the following characteristics:

- Vin 30-40 V

- Vou 325 V

- Iout 0.6 A

- switching frequency 200 kHz

I am stuck with a convergence issue. I have already tried to change the simulations options: increasing the max time step, GEAR metod and deleting the snubber as well.I hope someone will help me to sollve it.

Hi, everyone

                       In my doubt about the the signal traces width. Actually power trace should be wider than the other signal traces i give the power trace width size is 0.5mm and other size width is 0.2mm

                       i come to my point signal width size depending upon the voltage or current???

Accidently deleting symbols and shapes

When deleting clines and vias the software sometimes  turn on shapes and symbols in the find screen. The next time you try to deletes clines and vias, shapes and symbols will also get deleted. Any way to stop the software from deleting the shapes and symbols ?

Multi-Section Component with netlist errors

I have a dual LED part (Avago HSMF-C16x) [https://docs.broadcom.com/docs/AV02-0584EN] with one LED being pin 1 Anode and Pin 3 Cathode, the other LED is pin 2 Anode and Pin 3 Cathode.

I created a 2 section part the first part symbol is an LED with pin 1 anode and pin 3 cathode.

The second section is pin 2 anode and pin 4 cathode.

Downloaded the first footprint from SamacSys

I use these settings for my netlist.

and I get this error...

and this is the session output...

I have tried 2 different footprints and get same results, here is the currently set footprint showing what pin 1 is set to...

i run the mouse over 2, 3 and 4 and they all verify to be the correct pin numbers.

Any help anybody can provide would be appreciated.

ERROR(ORCAP-32007): Netrev failed -- only when design is on Google File Stream drive

Anyone else run into this and have a solution?

I have an orcad sch on a google filestream drive, and trying to create netlist and update board file:

(note the output directory also on google filestream)

I get:

Digging in the logfile, there are two places where files fail to write:

Performing a partial design check before saving.
Failed to open file 'G:/MY DRIVE/10-REV001/allegro/#Taaaaac30420.tmp'.

#2 Run stopped because errors were detected

When I copy the whole thing to a directory in my 'Documents' directory (on C: as usual) then the whole thing works with no errors.

So my two theories are that 

1) non-NTFS file system somehow screws it up

2) non C: directory somehow screws it up

3) what's really going on (of which I have no idea!)

The right answer is probably 3 ;)
