Show Global Pins in Schematic Symbol / Snap to Grid

In Part Developer under the PCB Librarian XL license, I'd like to create a schematic symbol (for TI ADS1299) with a a few logical pins (AVDD as an example) connected to multiple physical pins.  I also want that logical pin to show on the schematic.

Making the logical pin global hides it from the schematic symbol view.  When manually adding that pin to the schematic symbol in Part Developer, I receive an error saying the Symbol and Package do not match.  Running Interface Comparison shows me that the global pins are causing the mismatch.

Is there a  way to make global pins show in the schematic symbol, either in part developer or in Allegro Design Entry HDL?

Additionally, with my grid set to the following:
  • Decimal
  • Show Logic Grid Checked
  • Size: 0.010
  • Multiple: 5

When drawing wires or placing parts, they do not automatically snap to the grid.  Is there a way to turn that on?  Screenshot attached.

Unable to open V16.2 .brd file in V16.5 viewer

Have downloaded and installed V16.5 of the free viewer on a Win7 64 bit system.  When trying to open a V16.2 .brd file I get the following error:

ERROR (SPHMOD-36): Cannot open drawing. The database type is not appropriate for viewing in this product.

What do I need to do to open a .brd file supplied by a design house (it appears that a .sip or .dps is what the program is looking for)? My design house does not how to create the requested file  types.

I have tried to manually route in all ways possible. Can any body let me know what can be the problem as to why I am not able to route.

Making arcs in board outline

Ok, what is the trick to making a radiused corner on a board outline? I have a board outline with right angle corners. I edited the outline to have chamfered corners and now want them to be arcs. I select that section of the chamfer and right click, but there is no option to change the chamfer to an arc. (this is the way it was done in Layout...........)

Please don't tell me I have to generate the outline externally and import it...............

.dra and .psm files for a standard 37-pin Dsub right angle male connector

Hi,

Can anyone tell me where I can find the footprint .dra and .psm files for a 37-pin Dsub right angle male connector such as an AMP 5747843-4?  I've got files for the female version, but can't use it for the male as pin 1 & 19 etc. are backwards.  I'm using Orcad version 16.3.

Thanks,

Doug

Round hole, square peg......

 New one to me...........

I have a board where we have decided to put a few non-plated holes around the board to be used for debug purposes incase we need to run some wires from the bottom layer to the top layer for modifications and such. I have a mechanical hole that when I place it anywhere on the board, the solid copper layers produce a void of a square instead of a circle. I have other holes of similar nature used for the mounting holes that were placed the same way but give me a nice circular void.

So, why the square void vs the circular void? Both pad stacks have the same structure except the drill diameter is smaller fo one vs the other. Both holes are non-plated and have pad sizes smaller then the drill size so the pads get drilled away.

Hello - I have installed the latest hotfix for 16.6 (S007  v16-6-112AC).  Now when I generate my artworks I continue to get a warning message that my DRC is out of date even if I run my DRC check.  My Status displays that my DRC is up to date but I continue to receive a warning message that my DRC is out of date when I run my artworks.  Any ideas of what is going on?

Board outline help

Hi all, I'm working my way through transitioning from OrCAD 10.0 to 16.5.

I've started a new design and have a few questions regarding board outlines in OrCAD PCB Editor:

1) How can I create board oultines where the lines are not at 90degree angles?

2) How can I type in coordinate points for my board outline?

3) Is there a way to copy a board outline from an existing .brd file and paste it into an existing design?  The Help -> Documentation mentions a "boardoutline import" which is supposed to be under File -> Import -> Board.  This doesn't seem to exist and the command is not recognized when I type it into the console.  Am I missing something?  I did notice the documentation pulls up Allegro PCB Editor and there is no entry for OrCAD PCB Editor...

I have a design that has several diff pairs. I have been asked to make them the same length within .005"  (5 mil). I can't figure out how to use the constraint manager to do this.  When using the propogation delay, it says it doesn't apply to diff pairs.....  ?

I am using Allegro 16.0  XL

Error Creating a Printed Circuit Board Using OrCad Capture and PCB Editor

Hello,

Its been a long time since I've worked designing PCB's. I'm using Orcad Capture for elaborating the schematics and then, and this part is where I'm having a problem, trying to creat the PCB Boadr, creating the NetList, etc etc. I follow all the steps and I even tried doing it with a simple RC circuit to see if my design was the problem. But gives me the same error.

Now, what is the error yu might ask. Well, after creating "successfully" the Netlist, the PCB editor opens BUT, and this is the imporant part, THERE IS NO PCB in sight.

I really dont know what migh it be. If any one can help me with this I would really apreciate it.

P.S: using ORCAD 16.6 on Windows 7 x64.

Placement Edit not working?

I have two sites where I use PCB Editor. One at a customer / employer and the other at my home office. Yesterday I took a file from the customer to my home office to continue working on it last night. When I opened the file to continue placing parts, placement edit would not work, meaning that I could not move any parts or text I had to use the "move" command to place the parts.

This is a small board with maybe 30 parts. normally I would select placement edit and have only "symbols" checked in the find filter. This would allow me to select and move any part on the board. It was not working this way. With placement edit selected as well as "symbol" when I selected a part, the part would highlight but I could not move it. The only way to move the part was to use the "move" command which is very time consuming.

This function worked just fine earlier in the week (and on several other boards) and it works just fine at the customers location. (same versions of Editor installed at both locations)

So the usual question......... What am I doing wrong?

Thermal reliefs for vias used in SMD pads

Hi all I am doing a design with via in pad for the first time and was wondering if there are any known soldering issues if you don't thermally relive the via on a plane? Normally we never put thermals on a via but have never put the via through a solderable pad before.

Thanks in advance to any and all answers.

How to change the solder mask of pads from top to bottom in brd file

I placed the components on top layer and mirrored. Components have been placed in the bottom layer but some how the solder mask layer of the component pins is displaying as solder mask top.

It should change to solder mask bottom. Let me know some remedy for this, as I am facing this problem in many instances.
