Hi all,

I'm trying to measure from aribtrary points in PCB Editor, however I select the first point and I get "Dimension point at ... is not being associated with an object."

How do I measure between two arbitrary points? I checked the algroman and algrostart and couldn't find it.

 Thanks!

Make NC Template Struct / Changing Drill Legend to display 0.000

Changing the NC Drill Legend to  display values to a three placement after the decimal point.

In the Precision section of this file, I have been trying to add a three zero placement to this function.  Although, it hasn't been working per the suggested parameters.  There have been several attempts to alter the configuration but none have proved affective.  Even when the >0 was added, a 'syntax error' was generated.  Are there any successful attempts to add a three zero placement after the decimal point.  0.000, 0.120, 0.800 etc.

see example of code below:

;   ?Precision
;   ----------
;
;   Precision specifies the number of decimal digits to follow the
;   decimal point in size and tolerance values appearing in the table.
;
;   -1 = as many as are needed ... minimum 1 (DEFAULT)
;    0 = suppress decimal point and decimal digits
;   >0 = always put <n> decimal digits after the decimal point,
;        adding any trailing 0's as necessary
;
 ?Precision             -1

Change cline width while routing

 Hello Members,

I would like to know if there is a simple way to change the cline width while routing.

I am using Allegro PCB design L 16.3.

According to my knowledge, the ways to change the width is to go to the option menu or to use the right click menu.

As both options are time consuming, I would prefer to change the width by using a funckey that will increase/decrease the width according to predefined data.

Would much appreciate your help in this matter.

Miki.

Is there a way to resize the reference designators in PCB Design L?  Text is easily resized in the schematic using F8 and F9 but I'm unable to find a corresponding function in the PCB editor.

Does anyone else dislike the "Line Width Retention" feature?

Branching off from http://www.cadence.com/Community/forums/p/16025/1322497.aspx, which originated my question in that post.

Am I the only one who finds the line width retention to be a real pain and a hindrance to getting work done? We make heavy use of constraints in our designs, and so the line width is mostly driven by the constraints. In rare cases manual setting of line widths are needed.

I also keep the Options tab closed since it eats up valuable PCB canvas area, and I use keyboard commands frequently so I don't need to use the Options tab for most commands. The complex commands that require me to think and break from the placing/routing process don't cause must additional disruption to go to the Options tab, but when I laying down parts or copper I want to have all the monitor are available to see what I'm doing and I get along just fine without the Options tab open.

If I make a manual change to line width, the next net that I route should typically go back to Constraint, because the constraint generally determines the correct line width for all nets. So this new feature means more trips back to the Options tab, wasting time.

If I'm working with a partially-routed cline, I usually want to pick up the line width of that cline. This is also annoying because the retained line width isn't always (in fact, it usually isn't) the line width of the partially-routed cline. Again, I have to make a journey to the Options tab which slows down my progress. Sometimes the partially-routed line width is picked up, while other times the last-used line width is used; I haven't figured out what makes either condition occur.

I can think of two options to make my life easier:

  1. A way to disable line width retention.
  2. Have line width displayed in the status bar of the Allegro window, so that I can easily see the current line width with the Options tab closed.

Also, as I mentioned in the post linked above, I want to change line width with the mouse wheel during routing without losing PCB canvas area due to the Options tab being open. Assuming I can do that, this becomes even more of a problem because I now have the ability to change the line width with the Options tab closed, and I have no way to visually identify/confirm the current line width. Nor do I necessarily know what line width has been retained (I can guess and with fairly high accuracy, but there's no UI feature to show me for sure).

"Keep Drill Holes Open" in PCB Editor 16.6 ?

Hello.

With Orcad Layout in Post Process Settings, I used the option "Keep Drill Holes Open" to do prototypes.
Why can I use this option with PCB Editor 16.6?

When I generate top or bottom film in a board in the Artwork Control Form, the holes don't appear.

Thanks.

Foot Print Updates

When I do a an update symbol pad stacks I get disconnects on the symbol pins and the nets. Any vias on the net then become power or ground and have to be deleted. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Any way automate the re-connect process?

PCB Editor - Tree view not available

I am very new to PCB Editor and I'm sure I will end up posting a fair amount of Forum questions.  The first is that I am trying to do a manual place of components in the PCB Editor, and my tree view doesn't seem to be appearing properly.  In all the examples I have seen, there are check boxes next to the reference designators.  My tree view shows all the components, but there appears to be no way to select them as there are no check boxes in my view.  If I highlight the refdes name and then click "Hide" to try to place the component, nothing happens.

It is worth noting that I am using version 16.3 on Windows 7.  This has already produced a few bugs that needed correction.  I assume this is the same situation.  Any suggestions?

DXF output from Allegro 16.5

I have some parts on a board I am working on that are rotated at odd angles, 87.625, 113.490 and 146.210. The parts look good in the Gerber files but when I do a DXF out the pads shown on the parts are rotated at either 45 or 90 degrees and not at what the part is rotated at. Is this a known problem or is there something I can do to fix this? We use the DXF out for our fabrication and assembly drawings.

How to update properties (library path) to symbol definition in PCB Editor?

I'm examining a symbol in a *.brd file, and I find the following line:

"Properties attached to symbol definition LIBRARY_PATH = M:/afx/Board_Projects/LIBRARY/ALLEGRO_LIB/symb ols/ff1760_smd.psm"

But my library_path should be different; how do I update this information?

Thanks!

Drawings, padstacks, and board files

Hi,

I am new to Candence PCB Editor software so forgive me for being a novice.

From lowest to highest complextity: padstacks, drawings, boards

I understand that board files encompass both padstacks and drawings and therefore is distributable similar to a PDF. You can edit the library, design, or instance drawing or pad stack when building a board file. However, I am confused when it comes to what is included in a drawing. Are the padstacks used in the drawing embedded in the drawing file?

Thanks,

Aric
