Hi All

I am using allegro 16.3V for PCB layout and Orcad for Schematic capture,We are doing a board in which We have to assign best fit channels ,For this purpose we have routed signals in PCB first and now we need the ports assigned back to the schematic.is there any utility or option by which we can do the back annotation?

I need a script (text file) for simulating a simple PV system for my Diploma.

I want to simulate a 'grid-connected' PV system for my Diploma. 20 modules connected all in series. These then connected with an inverter, and then connected to the line (220V). I have tried to simulate some scripts(text files) but they bring ERRORS. So, if anyone can help me with a script(text file) for simulating a scheme like this.

How to delete numbers when place a new component/mounting hole

Layout+ 9.1

When I place mounting holes on the board,  automatically are placed also numbers. The same happens if I add a new footprint. I delete it (from SST layer) but if I make a print of AST (from Post Processing) the numbers are displayed.

How I can delete/avoid these numbers?

 Thanks in advance

I would to make a Layout+ PCB for PAGE1  schematic and a second PCB for PAGE2

How I can do? Seems that I have to do two Capture Project for two PCB

 Thanks in advance

How to create a new footprint

Hi,

I have downloaded OrCAD 16.5 Demo (all products), but there is not OrCAD Layout. So I don't know how to do it. I have create a new library with only one chip (MPU-6000), but there isn't his pcb footprint, that is 24-pin plcc. And when I create the netlist, the PCB editor doesn't open the file. My schematics is very simple, only has the chip and lines.

Thanks

ODB export fails, "brd2odb.log does not exist."

I am new to Allegro. I made a simple change to a board silkscreen. I can successfully export the placement and the IPC but when I export the ODB data I get the error message:

"Allegro PCB Design XL"

'C;/USERDATA/.../ brd2odb.log' does not exist

How can I resolve this error?

Do I need to put my .brd file in a directory in the root ('C:\') directory?

Hi

When attempting to translate a catalog of library symbols in a max file to a brd file, i get this message on many parts:

WARNING ERROR(SPMHDB-204): All SHAPE outline segments must have equal width.  Can't create shape/polygon. iges id 890. Continuing.
Allegro iges id 890 is the Layout Obstacle named '15955'

Can someone please help me figure out what this means?

How to show proper layer order when printing?

What I would like to know is how to properly set the order of the layers so that everything is shown correctly.

 For example:

I have my footprint outline drawn on Package Geometry > Assembly_Top (ORANGE)

Dimension is on Package Geometry > Dimensions (RED)

Then I have pads (GREEN).

Ultimately what I would like is to see the pads, then on top is the outline of the footprint, then I'd like to have the dimensions which you can see where the dimension lines are pointing.

What happens is when I go to print, and I have the dimension layer set as the selected layer then the dimensions show good on top of the pads, but the pads are covering the package so I can only see what isn't covered by the pad. So I'll make the Assembly_Top layer the prominent layer and now the footprint shows nice on top of the pads, but now the dimensions are covered by the pads and I can only see the dimension lines once they're no longer covered by the pads.

Sometimes I'm able to produce the result I want, but it seems to be pure luck, is there a way to guarantee that I can have the proper layer view when printing?

 Thanks.

GLOSS ISSUE

I have a six layer board completely routed with the power and ground planes poured.  When you turn the individual layers on and off you can see which vias are connected to which layer and you can see the antipad area seperating it from other planes.  When I run the gloss function the antipads and flash symbols disappear and all the vias look like they are connected to all the layers.  Does anyone have an idea on what I am doing wrong?  Thanks, Jim

16.5 New footprint from Package Designer to PCB Editor?

$

Hello,

I am a new 16.5 user.  I designed some footprints in package designer as per the tutorials.  I saved them in a folder as .psm and .dra parts.
However when I go to create a netlist in Capture, or even to simply manually place the parts in PCB Editor neither I nor the software can find them.

In PCB Editor they are not in the "Package Symbols" list anymore (I feel like they were at some point). I don't see where to import them.
Do I create a library?  Am I missing an import function?  Am I missing some crucial step?

If someone could walk me through this I would be very appreciative, thank you.

Cheers!

Making a "Chip on Board" symbol

On what layer do I put the Component Bonding Pads. It can't be a copper layer because you don't want those pads on the board.

The copper underneath these components will be all Ground Net. I still need a pin with ratsnest so I can position the Board Bond Pad.

I think a higher version of Allegro would handle this, but that is more $$

How to export through hole pad drill diameter  size in dxf file ?

I enabled export drill information during dxf export but its not showing the drill dia size when viewing in edrawing viewer ,it showing only outer pad diameter .

In the image shown  having plated through hole  ( 4mm  dia drill + 6mm pad ) , but during dxf export its displaying only 6mm pad dimensions ,possiblities

are there that MCAD Engg. may consider this as drill dia , So each time I am exclusively defining drill & pad information on dimension class

Please help me is there any settings I can do so that it should display both drill & pad information for through hole pads

mechanical alignment hole not showing properly in 16.5 PCB Editor (look ok in 3D view)

Hi everyone,

Amateur user here.

I created a couple of footprints with mechanical alignment holes that go through the PCB (I also created the padstack that defines the holes).  As far as I can tell, everything looks fine for the various holes while in the footprint editing mode.  When I bring the parts into PCB Editor to place the part, I can see a shape in the area where the holes should be, but none of the shapes are the right size and I'm able to route in the area without a DRC.  When I switch to the 3D view, the hole shapes appear to be the right dimensions.

Any thoughts on what I need to do differently to get the holes to show up in PCB edit mode?  Thanks in advance for any help.

 Best regards.

Printing Hierarchial Designs

$

I've inherited a schematic and board where the schematic was created using hierarchical blocks for some circuits that are 6 or eight implementations of the given circuit.  I've only dealt with flat schematics. I can't seem to figure out how to print the schematic so that the schematics that are the actual hierarchical circuit pages will print enough pages to show the references designators for each implementation of the circuit.  Sorry if my verbiage is not accurate but this is strange territory for me.

What I get is 15 pages of schematic where I am expecting about 30.  On the printout there is only one page for each different hierarchical circuit.  What do I need to do to get the schematic to print all of the hierarchical circuitty with reference designators so the the schematic and the resulting board match?

Hello,

I need a model for a non-linear load (15 W Compact Fluorescent Lamp) in Pspice. I modeled a 25 W incandescent bulb using a resistor but I am not sure how to model a CFL. I am using OrCAD 16.5 Demo software. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
